As a non-profit, 501(c)3, program of the Back River Neck Recreation and Parks council, the Sailing Center's mission is to provide a full range of sailing opportunities to anyone with the interest, time, and energy to join us. We offer a wide range of sailing and waterfront programs including lessons, racing, summer camps, and cruising.

Nestled in the protected shores of Hawk Cove, our location offers the perfect site for a wide variety sailing areas and waterfront activities. Our beach launch area gives our sailors access to diverse sailing areas and conditions. Sailors launch just a short sail from Middle River, Back River, Hart-Miller Island, Pleasure Island, Brown’s Cove, and the Chesapeake Bay. Rocky Point Park also features a natural lagoon for a protected sail on the most windy of days.

The Sailing Center has a fleet of over 55 sailboats that are specially designed with hollow plastic hulls giving them added buoyancy and durability. These boats are simple to rig and fun to sail with very simple controls and a shallow draft. The 10’ Hunter Xcite offers two different sail sizes to accommodate most sailors in varying wind conditions. Our fleet of Hunter JY 15’ sloops are designed to simulate the racing boats used by high school and college sailing teams but use a rigging system that a recreational sailor can easily control.
