Summer Camp 2011

BCSC Sailing Camps develop confident, sea savvy skippers, in as little as one week. Our US Sailing Certified instructors introduce our co-ed campers to sailing concepts and terms in a fun and safe environment. Each sailing camp culminates with one of our "Camp Champ Regattas", where graduates get to show off their new found sea-skills to family and friends, while competing in a friendly race around the bouys. New for 2011, all of our Summer Camp Programs now run Monday-Thursday from 9:00AM-4:00PM and Friday from 9:00AM-3:00PM.......All of our camps offer complimentary bus service!

Introduction to Sailing

Intro To Sailing - Ages 8+ - These one week age appropriate camps provide a basic introduction to sailing for beginners, using our fleet of 10' Hunter Excite sailboats. Campers will learn how to rig, launch, and control their own small sailboat, by participating in dry land activities, on water games, and sailing exercises. The emphasis here is "FUN"! No prior sailing experience is required.

Beginner Sailing

Beginner Sailing - Ages 8-11 or 12-16 - These two week camps provide a more comprehensive introduction to single-handed small boat sailing for beginners. Our coaches will cover the following topics: sailing terminology, rigging, knots, sail trim, points of sail, wind awareness, tacking, gybing, boat care, and more. All participants will use our fleet of 10' Hunter Excite sailboats.

Intermediate Sailing

Intermediate Sailing - Ages 11+ - These two week camps are designed to take the "Beginner" sailor to the next level. Our coaches will teach a variety of more advanced sailing skills, with an emphasis on learning small boat racing techniques. At this level, some repeat campers will be introduced to our larger double-handed Hunter JY15 sailboats. This camp is highlighted by a group sail to Hart/Miller Island! Prior participation in Beginner Sailing is required.

Junior Race Team

Junior Race Team - Ages 8-18 - The ultimate camp for serious sailors! This program provides an intensive eight week "travel sports team" approach to sailing. The team spends practice days at Rocky Point Park under the close supervision of experienced racing coaches. During the eight week season, there can be as many as 14 travel regatta days, some taking us to overnight destinations at various locations around The Chesapeake. Each sailor provides his or her own class legal sailboat. Families are expected to support their sailors through volunteer participation with the team. The commitment level is high, but the fun, experiences gained, and friendships formed will last a lifetime!

Fishing Camp

Fishing Camp - Ages 9-16 - These extremely popular one week camps are a unique experience for kids ranging from beginners to more advanced anglers. Campers learn how to collect bait, select a fishing spot, bait their hooks, cast a line, and reel in a keeper as well as how to gut, clean and even cook their catch in a safe manner! Campers must bring their own rods, reel, line and hooks.

Chesapeake Childhood

Chesapeake Childhood - Ages 6-9 - These closely supervised one week camps are a celebration of all things "Chesapeake". Your kids will be introduced to many waterfront activities, including: sailing, kayaking, crabbing, fishing, swimming, beach volleyball, navigation and orienteering, hiking, and environmental stewardship. The week finishes with a BCSC tradition, our famous "Corn Roast" cook out!
