    SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 12 NOON

Sir Francis Drake Completed his Circumnavigation of the world in 1580, the first Englishman to do so.  It took him almost three years, as it had Ferdinand Magellan in 1517.  The yacht America beat the British in a race around the Isle of Wight in 1851. That took 10 hours.
Bill Ball and Rodrigue Spinette won the Dutch Cup in 2002 by circumnavigating Hart-Miller Island in a grueling 285 minutes. The thirteenth annual race around Hart-Miller will be held this year on September 8.

The starting signal will be sounded at noon for competitors in all sorts of centerboard craft, wind- surfers included.

Bring your own boat for $10, or use one of our JY-15s for $40.
