Answering a call from home schooling parents to fill a void in home schooling physical education requirements, The Baltimore County Sailing Center provides spring and fall sailing opportunities specifically for home schooled students.
Studies have indicated that Sailors have better spatial skills than non-sailors. Our sailing lessons lead into discussions of physics, fluid and aerodynamics, environmental sciences, marine biology and physical fitness. Sailing also provides a great social opportunity for home schooled students.
During the 12 hours of instruction, students will learn the basics of sailing theory, terminology, and boat handling. U S SAILING certified instructors will help students acquire the skills and confidence necessary on our single-handed (one-person boats) Xcites. Students will prove those skills with a sail to Hart-Miller Island towards the end of the program.
Students who already have solid sailing skill will continue to build on those skills. Discussions and exercises will cover topics such as navigation, weather, docking and anchoring and performance boat handling.

Spring 2006 - Sessions are for children ages 8 and up and will run Mondays and Wednesdays from 12 until 3p.m. Students are welcome to attend more than one session. Cost is $80/session

Fall 2006 - Session is for children ages 11 and up and will
run Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-6PM - Sept 11 - October 18. Cost is $150
