BCSC High School Sailing
Scholastic Sailing is one of the most fun and challenging programs BCSC offers. We treat sailboat racing just like some people see soccer or lacrosse. Students show incredible dedication by attending practices after school and then doing their homework in the evening. It is worth it though... the breeze on the Chesapeake in the Spring and Fall is exceptional. To participate, students must be able to sail and want to race. Some additional sailing gear may be required as it gets colder.
-Varsity Fall: $525.00
-Junior Varsity Fall:$400.00
-Parent Information Meeting (web-conference) on Tuesday 8/27 at 6:00 pm. *please email if you plan on attending*

-All teams start practice September 3
-The last day of practice will be October 24 (we may have a work party day followig week).
-We understand that some sailors have a consistent conflicts and we can work around that to make sure everyone has the opportunity to be on the team.
-For all unplanned absences we need to know by 10 am so that we can adjust pairings and practice plans.
Gear for Fall:
-Often times the fall is wet, always keep basic rain gear in your bag.
-Shoes (old sneakers are fine) are mandatory, barefoot sailing is not allowed!
-Lifejackets and team pinnies will be provided.
-On cold or rainy days a winter hat is required.
-For practice parents coordinate carpools to and from the sailing center each day.
-There is an app parents have used in the past.
-We also carpool to regattas each week.
-It is best to have a snack ready for the trip to and from the center.
-We will have more sailors than spots in each regatta.
-Coaches will determine sailor pairings and substitutions throughout each event and practices.
-There may be events where a sailor does not get on the water.
-Sailors will be places on a team of approximately 6 sailors and will compete with that team all season. However our practices are more fluid and all sailors will sail together.
-Sailors must have a reusable water bottle with them at all practices and regattas
-Sailors must also have a bailor with them at all practices and regattas
-Also, even in the evening sunscreen is a good idea.
